I wanted to take a minute and talk about the climate we witness daily. When we take time to read articles regarding our Canadian and Alberta economy, I'm sure many of you are like me as we shake our heads in disbelief.
Do we really know or understand:
- Is the Canadian and Alberta economy doing well like many articles will suggest?
- Is the Canadian and Alberta economy lagging compared to previous time frames?
- Do we know people who are either unemployed for some period of time now or recently unemployed due to the economic downturn in our area?
- Do we know people who either got a raise or a promotion or a new job due to the economic upturn in our area?
- Do we know small business owners who are saying business is up this year?
- Do we know small business owners who are saying business is down this year?
- Do we know friends who say their personal debt is lower now compared to last year?
- Do we know friends who say their personal debt is higher now compared to last year?
- Are we seeing businesses we know expand or contract?
While we may read all the articles available I think the best source to come to a conclusion is looking around us and answering the questions above. We may all discover different conclusions!
After drawing your conclusion I would suggest now, more than ever, is time to complete a financial check up with a Professional like myself. We all hear about annual reviews that take place for investments but rarely do we hear about annual reviews for real estate holdings, mortgages and the liability side of the ledger.
